Yesterday we put up all our Christmas decorations. There is my new Advent wreath, our nativity set that is about ten years old, and our tree topped by our angel, Harold, who has watched over us for the past forty-six Christmases. I was filled with nostalgia and a little melancholy as I hung the ornaments. Our children and friends made them long ago. I remembered the years when our children were young and filled the house with noise and excitement. Putting up the tree with children is a very different event than putting up a tree with two sentimental old folks. I am blessed. My memories are sweet. I love the people my children have become, but I do miss the days when they were little.
The picture was made for our Christmas card in 1975.

Hi,
I remember a lot of Christmas when I was a kid, but it's hard for me to "see" what memories I'm creating for my kids
What a great photo!
Mom and Dad say "hello" back to you.
They are heading back home tomorrow.
Did you put out the plastic Santa with white reindeer? Have the gold sparkly clip-on birds survived?
Anne, I don't know what your kids will remember, but I can guarantee that their memories of any event will not be the same as your memories.
Tracy, I miss your folks.
AM, of course we Santa and his reindeer. Alas, the gold clip on birds lost their clip.
Wow, fast forward to this time, this year and that image could very well be my family. Although we have 2 olderboys and two little girls.....you know, a happy bunch of six of us all together. I cherish these moments...as you say here, it is wonderful decorating with the children...and I guess, as time rolls on, I shall decorate FOR them :)
I love this photo! I cannot remember posing for anything like this when I was a kid, but then again, there was only the three of us. Christmas is a magical time for a young child, the decorations, lights, the excitement of Christmas Eve and Christmas day, the smiles on everyone's faces.
Oh, how great is that photo and the post was so sweet!
It's a blessing I think, to have memories you hold dear. Many aren't so fortunate.
Oh, that family is just too too wonderful. You are one lucky lady. And you're children are quite lucky as well.
